How to play Online Roulette?

There are many different forms of Roulette – from the classic versions of European, French and American, to enhanced and unique versions that can only be played online. All Roulette games use the same basic play style that is simple to learn, and easy to understand.

Roulette is a game of chance, however, many players believe that using certain roulette strategies can improve their winning odds. You may try Martingale system, Paroli strategy, Oscar Grind, Labouchere, the Hollandish, Kavouras betD’Alembert, Tier-et-tout, and much more.

How to win at Online Roulette?

To play and win at online roulette, you simply need to place your chips on the layout in the betting positions of your choice and hope that the ball will land on that number. The basic bets in roulette can be divided into two main types: outside and inside bets. The outside bets are more likely to win but they have lower payouts. These include dozens and columns, and the even chance bets (red/black, odd/even, and high/low numbers).

The inside bets are the numbers on the central part of the layout. These have much higher payouts but are also riskier. You can bet on one individual number or a group of numbers.

Finally, the colours and columns system is a classic strategy which requires you to place a bet on a column with 8 red numbers in it and a bet on red. This covers a third of the wheel. If your 2-1 column bet doesn’t win, you still have a 47% chance of winning on red and thereby breaking even.

Below are the basic roulette bets:

Advanced roulette bets

Adding some more advanced bets to your roulette play can make your game much more enjoyable and help you develop your own strategies. Advanced bets in roulette include neighbour bets and section bets (also called French bets).

Roulette Neighbour Bets

Neighbour bets cover 5 numbers: the main number and the 2 numbers either side of it on the wheel – its ‘neighbours’. Neighbour bets are always divided between 5 numbers, so a £10 neighbour bet would place £2 on each number. For example ‘zero and the neighbours by 2’ would cost £10 in total, placing £2 on the numbers 0, 3, 26, 32 and 15.

Roulette Section Bets

Section Bets

Sections bets, sometimes called French bets, cover larger sections of the wheel. The section bets are voisins du zero, tiers du cylindre and orphelins (nearly always shortened to ‘voisin’, ‘tier’ and ‘orphans’).

Roulette Voisins du zero

Voisins du zero (Voisins)

Voisins is the largest section and covers the area around zero. This is a 9 piece bet and includes 17 numbers in total with the chips placed in following positions on the layout:

  • 2 chips placed on 0,2,3 corner
  • 2 chips placed on 25 to 29 corner
  • 1 chip placed on 4/7 split
  • 1 chip placed on 12/15 split
  • 1 chip placed on 18/21 split
  • 1 chip placed on 19/22 split
  • 1 chip placed on 32/35 split

For example, to place ‘voisins by 5’ would cost £45 in total (£5×9).

Roulette Tiers du cylinder

Tiers du cylinder (Tiers)

Tiers is the second-largest section and covers the area opposite zero. This is a 6 piece bet and includes 12 numbers in total with the chips placed in following positions on the layout:

  • 1 chip placed on 5/8 split
  • 1 chip placed on 10/11 split
  • 1 chip placed on 13/16 split
  • 1 chip placed on 23/24 split
  • 1 chip placed on 27/30 split
  • 1 chip placed on 33/36 split

For example, to place ‘tiers by 5’ would cost £30 in total (£5×6).

Roulette Orphelins

Orphelins (Orphans)

Orphans is the smallest section and covers the remaining numbers between tiers and voisins. This is a 5 piece bet and includes 8 numbers in total with the chips placed in following positions on the layout:

  • 1 chip placed on number 1 straight up
  • 1 chip placed on 6/9 split
  • 1 chip placed on 14/17 split
  • 1 chip placed on 17/20 split
  • 1 chip placed on 31/34 split

For example, to place ‘orphans by 5’ would cost £25 in total (£5×5).

Roulette Online vs Live Roulette

Online Roulette vs Live Roulette

Playing roulette online is very different from playing roulette in a land-based casino. Firstly, there are no other players to get in the way. This means you can place the exact bets you want without having to push your way to the front of the table. It is easy to select the chip denomination you want to play and there is no possibility of the dealer ever making a mistake. For those on the move, it is even possible to play 24/7 roulette on your mobile from wherever you are.

Real casinos can also sometimes be intimidating for new players, so online casino roulette is also ideal for people who want to learn the rules of the game in a more relaxed environment and take their time with their bets.

For those who enjoy the buzz of a live casino but also want the convenience of playing from home, check out the live roulette games available via video streaming. These games let you enjoy the exciting atmosphere of a busy live roulette table, while still enjoying the relaxation of playing from your own living room – the best of both worlds!

Frequently Asked Questions about playing roulette

Is online roulette all about luck?

Online roulette is a game based on chance, although there are strategies you can adopt to increase your chances of winning, the truth is that where the ball lands on the roulette wheel is determined by pure luck.

What are the types of online roulette bets?

Most roulette bets can be divided into two categories: inside bets and outside bets. When making these bets during a game, you’ll need to meet the minimum wager on each outside bet you make, and the combined total of your inside bets must also meet the minimum. If you don’t want to bet cash sums, you can also play roulette online for free.

What Is the safest bet In online roulette?
The safest bets in online roulette are those that offer a 50% chance of winning, which are odds/even, red/black and high/low. For those playing online roulette for real money, it’s also wise to set the bet size based on your remaining bankroll and ensure you don’t spend beyond your means.

What are the best roulette strategies?
There’s no set way to win online roulette as it’s a game of chance, but there are some popular online roulette strategies such as Martingale, D’Alembert, Fibonacci, Labouchere and James Bond. For many, the most important strategy is deciding which roulette wheel you want to play on – European or American – as there’s a notable difference in house edge between the two, with the European generally preferred. There are also some quite distinct and entertaining roulette strategies that you could explore, such as the kavouras roulette strategy.

What roulette games do we offer at Mr Green?
At Mr Green, we offer some of the best online roulette in the UK, including lightning roulette, online European roulette, and 20P roulette.

What Is the five number bet In roulette?
A five number bet – or basket bet – is where you place a bet that covers the zero, double zero, and top line of numbers (1, 2, 3) when playing American roulette online. This means you have five chances of winning across the 38 numbers in play, giving you odds of 13.16% of success.

What Is the difference between European roulette and American roulette?
The primary difference between European roulette and American roulette is the number of green pockets or ‘zeroes’ featured on the wheel. The European roulette wheels feature just one green pocket marked ‘0’, while American roulette has two green pockets – one marked ‘0’ and the other marked ‘00’. This also affects the house edge; while the European wheel has an average house edge of 2.3%, American roulette has a house edge of 5.26%.

What Is the most successful roulette strategy?
The success of a roulette strategy is dependent on the luck involved while playing, although some are generally considered to be better than others. Online live roulette players may wish to adopt the Martingale strategy, which is used on outside bets and provides an almost 50% chance of winning.
